Pharmacological action of
Xila refers to sedative drugs from the group of thiazine derivatives.
Xylazine hydrochloride, which is part of the drug, is an antagonist of central alpha-2-adrenergic receptors, has a calming, muscle relaxation and analgesic effect.
When administered parenterally, it quickly causes dissociated anesthesia, the rate of manifestation of which depends on the dose and route of administration (after intramuscular or subcutaneous administration occurs in 5-30 minutes, after intravenous administration – in 1-5 minutes), followed by a dominant sedative effect and after 20 -50 minutes muscle relaxation.
The duration of the calming effect after administration of the drug in dogs and cats is 1-2 hours, the painkiller is 15-30 minutes.
Ksila, according to the degree of exposure to the body, belongs to moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), at the recommended doses it does not have a local irritating and sensitizing effect.
Indicated for dogs and cats to calm, anesthetize and muscle relaxation during a clinical examination, ren genologicheskih studies to immobilize restless and aggressive animals, including in transport time as sedation for surgical interventions, painful manipulations, as well as for local and general anesthesia.
Xil should not be used in animals with mechanical damage to the gastrointestinal tract (obstruction of the esophagus, stomach twisting, hernia), with diabetes and a history of cardiac muscle conduction, as well as in females in the last third of pregnancy (except in cases of obstetrics), with oxytocin-like action of the drug on the uterus.
With caution, the drug should be used in animals with lung diseases.
Injectable drug, containing xylazine hydrochloride as the active substance – 20 mg / ml, as well as excipients: sodium metabisulfite – 1 mg, citric acid – 10 mg, benzyl alcohol – 0.01 ml, sodium hydroxide (for pH correction = 5.0) and water for injection – up to 1 ml.
Dosage and administration of
Sedation and muscle relaxation of varying degrees are observed depending on the method of administration and dose of the drug.
Dogs Xyla is administered intravenously (slowly) or intramuscularly, to cats – intramuscularly or subcutaneously in the following doses: 0.1 ml / kg of animal weight – during transportation, clinical examination, catheterization, blood collection, change of dressings
0.15 ml / kg of weight animal – to achieve pronounced muscle relaxation during medical procedures that require the animal to lie down (opening an abscess, surgical treatment of wounds, suturing, etc.)
0, 2 ml / kg of animal mass – for complete immobilization of the animal for 20-50 minutes and a significant weakening of pain sensitivity during prolonged operations.
After applying Xyla, animals, until the physiological state is fully restored, should be monitored by a veterinarian.
In case of an overdose of the drug in an animal, breathing difficulties and bradycardia are possible. When breathing stops, the animal is advised to shower with cold water and artificial respiration.
Specific antidotes for xylazine are alpha-adrenergic blockers, which, if necessary, are used in animals according to the instructions.
Peculiarities of the drug during its first use and withdrawal were not detected.
In order to prevent vomiting, the animal must be kept on a hungry diet for 6-24 hours before administration of the drug. In case of severe respiratory failure, the animal is given a chest massage to restore normal breathing.
Xyla is applied to animals once.
If the desired degree of sedation is not achieved, additional injections to achieve the desired effect are not recommended.
Side effects of
In some animals, after Xyla administration, a short-term decrease in blood pressure, disturbance of heart rhythm, respiration and thermoregulation, vomiting, hyperglycemia, and polyuria can be observed. These symptoms, as a rule, disappear spontaneously and usually do not require the use of drugs.
