Solution for external use
Levomycetin alcohol solution – an antimicrobial drug for topical use. The drug contains an active component – chloramphenicol – a synthetic substance with pronounced bacteriostatic activity.
Gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria are sensitive to the action of the drug, including the drug is active against microorganisms that are resistant to other antimicrobial agents (penicillin, tetracycline, sulfanilamides).
The mechanism of action of the drug is based on its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in microorganism cells through interaction with the 50S ribosomal subunit.
In patients with trophic ulcers and burns, the use of the drug leads to an acceleration of the processes of epithelization and tissue regeneration.
When applied topically, absorption of chloramphenicol into the systemic circulation is negligible.
After a single application, the local bacteriostatic effect of the drug lasts about 6-12 hours.
Alcohol solution 1, 3 and 5% is used to treat patients suffering from skin diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of chloramphenicol, including: Infected burns and wounds.
Pressure ulcers, trophic ulcers, boils.
Alcohol solution 0.25% is used for violations of the integrity of the skin, including burns, cuts, abrasions, skin cracks.
In addition, the drug can be used to treat patients with purulent otitis media.
Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug.
The drug is not prescribed for patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, severe impaired renal and / or liver function, intermittent porphyria and impaired hematopoietic function.
The drug should not be prescribed to patients with skin diseases, including diseases of the fungal etiology, psoriasis and eczema.
The drug is not used for the treatment of women during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as for the treatment of children under the age of 1 year.

If side effects from the hematopoietic system develop, you should stop using the drug.
With prolonged use of the drug, it is necessary to control the blood picture.
With prolonged use, as well as with high doses of the drug, patients may develop irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as local allergic reactions, including skin rash, itching and urticaria.
